Dovo pastes...are they the same as buffing compounds

Today I was talking to a guy that works with leather, and I mentioned to him my interest in straight razors. So immeaditly he asks if I sharpen and strop my razors and what method do I use to do so. I guess people who work with leather need sharp tools. But the long and the short of it were talking about stropping and he asks what I use to paste my strop I say cro2 he says he uses jewelers rouge on 1 strop and the white buffing compound on the other and right then and there it dawns on me the dovo pastes come in same color as the buffing compounds and the have similar composition. So does any one know if Dovo pastes are basicly the same as buffing compounds?

I'm under the impression that it IS the same thing. I've got some of the green crayon from Lowe's on an old strop and it works just fine. A couple quick laps and it brings that edge right back.

My gut says its the same stuff. they are both mild abrasives. If not the same im thinking very close. I was curious if any one knew forsure or tried it. Knowing someone is using the jewelers rouge now im gona giv it a shot thank you Tony B.

They are the same only in that they both have an abrasive and a binder. Other than that there is no resemblance. The types of abrasives, and the size of the abrasive are most likely very different. We have had long discussion threads on this subject over the years. A person really needs to know the type & size of the abrasive within each compound to determine which to use first or last. An example is the green buffing bars. They have not only chrome oxide of various grit sizes but also other abrasives of various sizes. Your choice is to either start with a known or experiment with an unknown.
