Can I knock the flux off a Ni rod welding rod to use for a silver color pin and a brazing rod for a brass looking pin. or will that not work so well?
and allso what trick is there to polishing up next to the tang pin area without taking the scale off or is the only good way to take the pin out?Thanks for all the help!
I used brazing rod on one of my razors and it worked really well. I cant see the welding rod being any different though I cant speak from experience.
I did my share of stick welding in the '70s and '80s. IMHO 60 and 70 series rod would be too hard, but I might be wrong, I was wrong once before. :shrug:
In one of his videos I think I saw Maestro Livi pick up a stub of a stick welding electrode and make a pin out of it. I could be wrong, but that's what it looked like. It's probably not the perfect material, but should work if you pick a fairly soft rod.
personally, I use Q-tips, toothpicks, and even dental floss. get some metal polish in there, and go to town...the dental floss is for flossing between the tang and scale... you can knock out a lot of the rust by doing so, odd as it sounds ;)Quote:
