Is it possible to polish the Fox and Rooster off a razor?

I just purchased a new forging TI razor and would like to know if it is difficult to polish the gold washing off it if I so desire? It is not here yet and I am sure that I will like it but I am just partial to polished razors a lot more. Here is a file pic

hand polishing with mas will definitely remove a lot of the gold wash but not completely.
From my experience only buffing or sanding will completely remove the gold wash

I imagine the gold wash will go fairly easily but those etchings are in there to stay if I'm not badly mistaken. :shrug: You could sand them off but that would be an awful lot of work. I don't even notice them after awhile.

Thanks for the insight. If I were to send it to Max or someone that has the skill to do it will it change the characteristic of the Razor? It is a 6/9 Full hollow grind.

+1 to what mainaman said.

Since you are partial to polish you should get in
the habit from day one of oiling your blade
with a fine oil (camillia, mineral) with special
attention to the pivot area.

It may also pay to apply TufGlide or the equivalent
on day zero.

If you hate the gold and other factory finishes
you still need to get in the habit.

I just took a look at a couple under an eye loupe and I can't tell how deep the etching goes. To me it is like my tattoos. Most of the time I don't even see them anymore. Every now and then I'll notice them. Same with blade etchings. Max could better answer your question as to what it would take to remove it and if it would change the characteristics of the grind. The one side would have to be sanded and buffed as if it were a razor with pits I think.

Yes.. Maas will take off all the gold wash. I know from my own mistake in the past. And yes Max can remove the remaining etching without compromise to the shave or its characteristics. He did it for me
