Silver? Nickel-Plated?

As a novice restorationist, I have enjoyed popping razors out of the scales, cleaning the blades, and re-pinning them in the scales. Many of the scales I've used weren't so great looking, though adequate, so the aesthetics were not absolutely critical.

But now I want to work on this blade, but as you can see, the scales and bolsters are lovely, almost pristine. When I re-pin this razor, what material should I use for pins and washers? Is this nickel-plated brass? Stainless steel? Silver?

I would be most grateful for any advice about how to retain the authentic look of the pins when I re-pin this one.

Try Texas Knife supply that's where I buy it..

I can't quite tell in the pic but many of those with Bolsters are done WITHOUT washers, and yes you can redo them that way, but it takes a ton of patience, and about 200 light taps per side to get them right :)

Yes it's a Robeson, which has become my personal favorite for collecting. No idea why, except that they hone up beautifully and give a great shave. This one was so pretty I couldn't resist.

Would it still work to use washers or should I try it without? I'm assuming pins cut very precisely, then peened super delicately?

You could use the Brass #0 washer on it and the Silver rod will hide 90% of the brass washer when peened...Anything bigger will be noticeable :cry:

But yes you are assuming right about doing it without washers, it isn't easy, and it takes a delicate touch...:gl:

Dont do anything. I love the look of it just as is. :)

But if you do go with the nickle silver rod. Brass would look :P
