Need someone better at restoration than I am.

I have a Johan Engstrom 6/8 "JE 1874" that I recieved from a family member. It was brought over from Sweden when that part of the family emigrated. It was forgotten about till I picked up straight shaving a little over a year ago. It's not in bad shape for as old and unused as it is, but since there's some etching on the blade I don't wanna be the one to go after it with sandpaper or metal polish and end up taking the etching off if there's a better way. Is there anyone here that restores and takes on side projects? We can work out all the details, just need a place to start.

Looks to me like it's in pretty good shape. Since it is an heirloom I would just have it honed and use it as is rather than go to the risks of restoration for a relatively minor aesthetic gain.

I second that...that is a very fine lookin blade(outstanding looking condtion) Send it to Lynn Abrams or gssixgun(glen) for honing and if they feel it needs any fixing in anyway,then get their advice.Otherwise...it looks as if that blade was never forgotten and has been keeping on since day one. Real nice Frameback .:)

SInce the picture you posted is not the actual blade you are referring to it's hard to say just get it honed up but if it is not too bad that is what I would recommend. If you really want it restored look in the classifieds under member services and look in this forum Custom Builts and Restorations - Straight Razor Place Forums for someone that does work you like and has been restoring razors for more than a year.
