Blade moves freely on pivot

This problem may be a bit tame for the restoration crowd. I've been using a new Dovo "Best Quality" razor for about two months. Fairly early on, the blade began to swing freely on its pivot. I'm not certain about the cause: it was my first razor, and perhaps I handled it incorrectly while honing. I also used mineral oil on it between shaves for a couple of weeks, then stopped doing so.

It does not wiggle side-to-side: it's not that loose. But the scales no longer "grip" the blade tightly; the weight of the blad is enough, in most positions, to cause it to slip on the pivot.

Is there anything I can do to make the blade sit snugly in the scales again, so that it does not swing on the pivot from its own weight?

Just give it a few light taps on both ends of the pivot pin with a light hammer. If you can remember the rhythm to the Terminator theme, that's what I use when pinning. Run through one stanza on either side of the pin.:D

Very light taps. The going comparison around here is "about as hard as you would want to hit your thumb".

It may be a good idea to notify the seller, even if you can "fix" this minor problem by yourself. They may want to look into it, as this razor is new and should have been well pinned. As a vendor, I would want to know if any of my stock was less than 100%.

You should also tap in a circle around the perimeter of the pin. The idea is to mushroom the edges out, not bend the centre. The same on both sides. Be patient and just keep going until it's nice and firm again.

I can't stress enough how lightly you should tap. It may take awhile going lightly but I recently cracked a set of scales and I was going as light as I could.

I find the new Dovos vary widely in this respect as do several of the TI razors I have bought new. The razors come sealed in their plastic tubes so most vendors will never know this unless they open the razor to hone it.

Careful going here. One tap too few and it's loose, one tap too many and you have cracked scales.
