Hello all,
I've been doing some googling on how to make carbon fiber scales. I've found several razors that have them, but no information on how to make them. Anyone know how? What tools and materials are necessary? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not really sure if this answers your question but you can actually order sheets of carbon fiber from places such as Masecraft.
I looked at their website, do you know if I would use the tape? Or is it an actual sheet of carbon fiber?
You'd want the 1/8" x 5" x 12" piece...its an actual sheet.

So much dust and it is nasty.
I replaced 3 clothing (basically throw it away) after everything done.
Ive never used it personally...doesn't appeal to me. But I know G10 and Micarta are bad enough...if it's worse...you can keep it..lolQuote:

i understand it doesn't bend ,broke etc but working with that scales is really PITA.
i hae worked with micarta G10 and CF and can tell you CF just plain sucks
think about rolling around in fiberglass then think abut the fact that CF fibers are lighter then glass and much finer
i worked mmy CF 99% of the time wet to keep dust to a min and that still only helped a bit
CF is cool to look at and i like the strength to weight but i might never work any of it ever again
I sure it is as much a pain as hi bud says but having never worked with it can't comment on it. However, I do have two carbon fiber scaled razors both of which are outstanding. One is straight carbon fiber the other has a red tinge to it and they both look/feel/handle amazing. If you have the patience and disposable clothing I say give it a shot!
I like the look of it too, which is what got me intrested in it. Now that you say it, it makes sense that it would do that. Would working with it underwater, not just wet, eliminate most if not all of the dust? I doubt anyone has tried it but I may give it a shot when the time comes.
i would use a big fan and blow as mmuch of it away from you (outside work)for the sawing and ruff grinding (you have a good true respirator right )
drill wet
finish sand wet also
but guess what you will still get it all over you hands under water and it will still itch
I will most definitely have the proper safety equipment (I can't imagine that stuff in the lungs/throat OUCH). Does anyone know of a step by step that I could see?
I agree 100% with butch on this stuff.. as far as a step by step.. IMHO you use the same methods as with any other scales but with just a bit more care to deal with the dust.
Thank you! So it's almost like a wood? From what I understand Carbon fiber is carbon fibers (duh) held together by an epoxy. Therefore it is sandable?

I have several cheap hacksaw blades I don't mind destroying, it certainly will be an interesting project when/if I get around to it.
a good way to tackle the CF is just rough cut your scales and do the rest of your shaping on the belt sander and a file that will go very easily as it sands so easy. But.... it will be a dusty mess (wear a dust mask and throw away clothesQuote:

i dont think that any one thats more then playing around with handle work should use a dust mask as a goood resporater is not much more the 35 bucks and lung replacemment is well a great deal moreQuote:
