Ideas with metal?

I know this is way to vague a topic but, I want do something either for the strogae of my razors, or maybe the scales, but no dieas have really stuck with me. I work in a metal shop, and i have access to alot of aluminum and steel, and plenty of tools, just no ideas of where to go from here. Anything you guys would like to see? I'm willing to take ideas, just bored and looking for something to spice up the normal work grind. Fixing attack helicopters is cool, but as with anything else it can wear off, but i feel like i have all these options but no thoughts.

Start with a simple brush stand. Do you have access to any anodizing equipment? An aluminum brush stand, or even aluminum scales that have been anodized would be cool one-off productions.

I have considered a brush stand, or scales. Unfortunately i cant anodize...not much need for it on military helicopters. I can buff aluminum to a pretty high shine though, and i have chemicals to corrison treat it. So, i will take these ideas into consideration. Thanks, any others?

Bored fixing attack helicopters? I feel your pain. I was filing some paperwork the other day when I realized I was out of TPS Report cover sheets. Luckily, I was able to navigate my way over to My documents and print a few extras. Boy, talk about tragedy narrowly averted. :)

Just kidding with you. I am sure no matter what you do you can lose interest in it over time. Except Ice cream. I still really enjoy eating ice cream.

You should make your self a semi customized shave box. Like one of the old school ones with compartments for the brush, 2 razors, a small strop, small shaving bowl etc. Then you'd just have to line it with something to keep the metal from scratching up your stuff.

I'm sure someone will come along with better ideas shortly.

Thanks for the idea, i've just recently seen someone else's shavbox they picked up at a yard sale on the forums. If i try to make one of metal, it'll be labor intensive, and long going, but probably line with some felt it would look nice. It'll take some designing but i will definitely keep that in mind, and if i decide to go with that, i'll post the finished product.:)

Brush handle

Standing razor rack. I'm kind of thinking something L shaped with whatever ways you devise to hold the razors.

2 part scuttle--basically two bowls, one inside the other, outer gets hot water keeps inside warm

All great ideas. Unfortunately the brush handle, would most likely need to be milled with a lathe...ours is down:(

As far as the standing rack, it'd take some designing but its worth a try.

With the scuttle, i'm not sure how well that would work, simply due to the fact that metal doesnt hold temperature well. Also it's tought to make a bowl with sheet metal, doable but can get time consuming.

I appreciate all the ideas. I was toying with a razor rack, thank for the push.

I'm thinking something L shaped when you look at it from the side, with the bottom of the L being thicker, and would hold the rack up by its weight. You could drill some holes in the thick base for the bottom part of the razors to sit in, then maybe some metal loops above the holes for the tops parts of the razor, so you'd have like 6 holes for the razors to sit in with 6 loops higher so the razor doesn't fall out when sitting in its hole. The loops could be round, U shaped or semi circular. In a way its kind of like a razor roll made into metal. At least thats my take on one way to do it.

I like the aluminium but it scratches easy. The brushed finish looks nice. I have looked into anodizing for the protection and possible colors. I am thinking about trying anodizing but it does not sound like something I would like to do indoors in the winter.

remember that your tools can work other materials like plastics, acrylics, nylon and the like. they machine easily and can be used to make a variety of projects such as scales, brush handles and holders.
