I'm wondering if you all think the edge on this razor will be usable if honed properly. I'm still not sure how to determine edge quality if there is tarnish or patina around it.
also, there is some patina on the face of the blade, I hope this can be cleaned without losing the etch. What do you think? What does adamantine refer to? I've seen others mention it in old posts but I haven't found a description.
Looks fine to me. It would take some time with a bevel setter and a patient hand, but that's about it.
There's pitting on the edge that you'll have to hone past to get a decent bevel. Then you'll have to hope that patina isn't hiding anything further. The only real way to know will be to clean it up and see. But you'll definately have to remove a bit of steel to get an edge.

Like the guys said already, it depends on how deep it goes.. A 1k hone and about 10 laps with a bit of pressure should tell you the story quite well...

After the advice I decided against buying this blade. I just don't want to risk it if it's a possible waste (it would be an expensive waste).
This item is actually on ebay for a buy-it-now of $100 and made by a great manufacturer. I was really hoping for a better response :)
I'm sure some of you may have seen this or will see it soon.
For that price I definately wouldn't take the chance.
