Well, I spent the last 2 or so days on and off sanding and polishing a genco I got off of ebay. I haven't made any custom scales yet, so I only repinned it to the no frills black scales it came with.

After all the sanding, polishing and repinning. I honed 'er up for a test shave.
It didn't seem to hone up as easily on the norton as any of my other razors. I was barely passing the HHT after finishing on the 8k side. But this might have to do with the fact that it probably needs some lapping and/or my hair is very fine. Despite not reaching the keeness I wanted off the norton, I went to the pasted paddle anyway. After I was done with that, it was popping off hairs as well as the rest of my razors.
I then showered, preped and began the inagural shave. For some reason the shave angle seemed to be abit more picky (could be just me though), none the less, the results were excellent. I didn't feel anything while shaving... even the several nicks I managed to give myself without noticing :D:shrug: It was, however, one of the closest shaves I've managed to attain in some time, if not, ever.
One other thing I meant to ask was if there's a good way to clean inside the jimps? I tried, but really couldn't get in there.
Back to the actual restoration... :)
This time I was going for an almost complete mirror finish. I came close, but there's still some remnants of sandpaper left (only at the correct angle in good light). So that leaves me asking, what is the best way to produce an absolutely flawless mirror finish? If I just kept polishing, would I eventually reach a flawless mirror finish? I noticed that the more I just kept on polishing, the more mirror like it would become. But, it felt like it was getting a little excessive, so to err on the side of caution I figured I'd better stop.
Also, is there anything I can put on the blade as some sort of protection? This mirror finish is fabulous, but it loves to show fingerprints and hold the oils from skin.
I used the brass washers it came with to fit back between the scales and the blade. However, this got me wondering... In all of my folding pocket knives, there are some plastic/silicon based (maybe also teflon coated) washers that sit between the blade and the scales/handles. Has anyone ever tried using something similar in an straight instead of the normal brass ones? If not, think it would be a good idea?... I have no idea where to get any though.
