Cracked Celluloid...Repair or Replace?

Hi, guys. I got a razor off eBay that's in pretty decent condition, but one of the celluloid scales is cracked clean through. What I'm wondering is if there's a way to repair it? The break is clean, and my first thought was just some super glue, but then I didn't know how that might react to celluloid. If possible, I'd like to keep the original scales.

I'd replace'em. You can get decent ones fairly cheap or make your own. You could probably glue them back together as long as u use a REALLY strong waterproof adhesive, but why bother? They're celluloid.

If the scales are celluloid you can easily repair them if they are worth keeping but it depends on what you paid for the razor and if it is worth going to the expense of fitting new scales. Do you have a photo of the razor?

Now I'm not sure glue will fix this one. The scales flex and there will be a lot of pressure in that area. However, it has some nice brasswork so you have to try for its sake. Worst case scenario, you create a set of scales of the same shape/size to accomodate the brasswork.

That is a tough one. I like the brass work but I don't think that it can be repaired.:cry:

I guess the consensus is keep the brass and get new scales. I figured it might be, but there was a small amount of hope. Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I appreciate it.

Well, you can still try to epoxy a thin piece of brass sheat on the underside of the scales. you have to dismatle the razor, and epoxy the brass across the whole surface. I think it will work OK. Do this at both halves, of course. It still might crack at the brake, but then just use thin epoxy, and seal the crack.

Nenad has the solution that will look the best for those scales. I would make a new set using the same brass... or a different look entirely. Get Gary to send you some Kauri.
