Gold Etching Restoration, Possible?

Hi. I got a Boker King Cutter at an antique shop about a month back. I finally pulled it out again and took another good look at it in anticipation of entering it into my rotation. (Sorry, no pictures) I got this one because it was in really great shape. Almost no tarnishing, and only a bit of rust on the jimps at the pins.

But the thing is, most of the gold stamp is gone. There is just enough to tell it's gold, and the label "King Cutter" is easy to read. It's just not very vivid or very gold any more.

Has anyone developed a technique to reapply gold lief or something of that nature? I tried to research the method the company used to apply it at the factory; but find nothing.

Do I have to just settle for the way it is?

Revisor in Germany does gold re etching.

I'm curious how. I bet with patience I could gold lief it; but would it hold in water and suds, or would it need some type of glue?

Someone with knowledge of the process should post it in the wiki. Please?

I think the process is called electroplating it is not based on gluing at all.

Search AaronX on here he was doing Electroplating on razors and did some threads on it...
I personally had honed some of the razors he did and his process was solid as a rock....
BUT Aaron was doing tangs & spines, etc: he was not doing designs.

I'd guess, and this is just a guess, that coating the parts or sections with beeswax, or some similar substance would be sufficient to protect the blade and allow only certain areas to be plated.
