You can find the extremely high small pieces of sand paper at hobby stores. Specifically I found a bunch of them at a specialized train hobby store. The ones I have are plastic squares of various bright colours.

I never thought about a hobby store. We have a hobby lobby here in town. I wonder if they would have something?
Can't hurt to go check it out. :)
The Hobby Lobby where I live carries high grit sandpaper. They come in packs that include a sheet of all the grits, from 320 to 12000. They are located(at least here) near the air brush supplies.
Very nice job.
Mvcrash, thanks for the offer, I will let you know if I can't find some.
Theseus, I will look at Hobby Lobby. If they do indeed have that same pack at our HL I am buy three or four packs!
Whavens, thanks!
Theseus, found the sandpaper at our HL! Just picked up one pack until I find out how good of paper it is.
Mocked up a rough 1st draft of my pattern out of yellow cedar. Man, the smell takes me back to my wood burning kit I had as a kid!
It even centers!! Hahahaha.
Lookin good. Means a bit more when your own blood goes into the project...lol. Cool shape for the scales too. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Really nice job on shining that up!
I can't wait to see it finished.
