I am working on some custom SRP scales to donate for the monthly drawing. I almost have them finished please let me know what you think. I have the cut out areas reenforced with clear epoxy resin and the wood is black walnut.

Impressive, most impressive.
All I can say is WOW!!!
Wow that is incredible, I have no idea how you would even attempt something like that. I already congratulate whoever wins those!
As always, superb craftsmanship sir!
Yes, very impressive....my thought is how strong are they. Now that you have put so much detail into them.
But yes, I am very impressed with the detail
I normally don't mess with the drawings...may have to reconsider now.
When I first cut them out of the black walnut I had to be kind of careful with them, at least around the letters in the SRP logo, that's when I got the idea to fill in all the open areas with the chrystal clear 2 part epoxy resin. I had used it on "Bubbles" with a little bit of blue tint and it worked great so I thought I would use on these too for strength. Well they are plenty strong now actually a little stronger than celluloid so I'm happy.
P.S. I will post pictures of "Bubbles" tonight, it's a set of scales I did last week that I was just going to clear coat but went with a blue tinted epoxy resin so now they look like stained glass.
That looks excellent. How much time did that cost you?
Total, maybe 8-9 hours.
Really something special, and a great gesture!
Very very cool. I'm curious how they are made (i.e. what tools/process do you use to make them)?
:dropjaw: Just amazing. Beautiful work! Can't wait to see them with a blade between them.
Wow Mastershake!! Amazing skills bro! Like the others have said, I'd sure like to see em with a blade between them..
Awesome work!
Mike
Very fine work!! WOW! Obviosly you have done inlays or marquetry, what talented hands you have.
What a nice idea.
well done, thank you!
WOW WOW WOW ...
Outstanding work !
The skill of the members here never ceases to amaze me.
I got the blade installed on the SRP scales. Perfect fit, let me know what you think. I will be mailing it off to str8razor on monday.
That's some serious precise craftsmanship.
I think you are a gifted and generous craftsman and that there is gonna be one very happy guy in 15 days and a bunch of sad guys who missed out on a great prize.
I like! Good to see the scales married to that blade. Gorgeous & generous work, sir.
Thanks everyone, I just did the scales str8razor sent me the blade to use (I didn't have any extra, I'm new to collecting). So it was a tag team effort.
Very Nice! Very nice indeed! Great idea of using the epoxy for reinforcement!
Please post the link to the other scales here so we don't miss seeing them!
Well I am also impressed and can't wait to get them. lZ6 donated the blade some time ago and I thought that this would be a perfect match for those scales so Scott and I worked up a deal he made the scales and I mailed him the blade.

This one might make a good one for the Christmas giveaway.

Wow, a lot of work went into that design. Very nice job!
Besides the excellent craftsmanship, what a great tribute to SRP. I would think that many SRP members would absolutely love to have their favorite blade dressed in those scales as a constant reminder of the generous guidance we have been nurtured with perfecting art we love so much. Well done.
Truly gorgeous. Is the contest open yet? I don't want to miss getting on this one.
It looks like that was done with a Laser - Am I right? do I win?
seriously though, I'm new here. how do I win this?
great work! I am impressed.
I don't know which month they will be the prize, I just donated the scales. str8razor will probably decide when to give them away.
AWESOME!!!
beautiful! you are a master!
That is just pure magic! Awesome detail yet simplistic.

I just received the razor with the SRP scales and should say that they are just as nice as in the picture. Quite some intricate work on these. What is really impressive is the inscribed razor above the SRP name. You did really good work on these Scott, way to go.
Now, would you guys be in favor of putting these in the Christmas (December) giveaway since I have, in the past, put up some pretty neat things?
Bill
Amazing design and beautiful. I hope I win them as I know where they would go. Great job! Don.
I could design some christmas themed scales and donate them for a christmas giveaway if you all would rather that? Just let me know.
