Default Where is a good place to Get Wood for Scales?

I am wondering where you can get good hard wood for the scales. Like maybe African Iron Wood, Briar, Mohogany, Tiger, Zebra and severy other Woods? I am going to try some shops around here but I doubt the have the nice stuff.

Woodcraft has a nice selection of woods. They even have most of them cut into thin stock.

Thanks for the link. The prices are very good, although shipping would be a factor. I'm lucky, I live 20 miles from a Rockler store, so that is were I usually go. Another 20 miles, and there is a Woodcraft.

Just make sure you get pieces at least 6". You really have to pay attention to that one or you will be bummed...

I get my wood from Lee Valley, they have a website you can order from. They sell long blocks of wood meant for pen turning but you can easily get 10 or more scales from one block. They range in price from $4 to $28 a block depending on the wood and they carry yellowheart, purpleheart, ebony, zebra wood, etc.

    Happy hunting!

If you find a type of wood you really want, but in larger pieces, any carpenter with a bandsaw can cut thin slices for you without too much wastage.
