I have warped metal-capped celluloid scales on the Genco that I'd like to spread out a bit. Could I use a heat gun for that purpose and how? If not, then I'm supposed to dip it in boiling water?
It's about time for me to get started on my babies as I finally have the time and the supplies. :D

Thanks Bill. The problem is that I'd have to make them EXACTLY like the old ones as they have lovely metal caps that I'd rather keep. Even the scales themselves are ok. The warpage is mostly toward the inside, so anything that is going to keep them spread out a bit should be ok. However, I am re-considering the boiling water idea.
So even a low setting on the heat-gun could cause them to catch on fire?
So, why don't you just add a third pin to space them apart??Quote:

If you don't mind replacing the scales, I have a crapload of standard celluloid scales sitting here. Most are still pinned at the spacer. I'd be happy to throw one (or some) your way for free. All you have to do is come pick them up.
Thank you for your tips gentlemen and your offer Jason. I will probably drop by to see what you have and if they will fit my metalwork. Tonight's 5min effort over the pot full of boiling water produced even more warpage and it still wouldn't close properly.

Hi guys, I have sort of the same question. I'm not up to making new scales but would like to put some new ones on a couple of old razors. Is there anywhere that sells scales other than Classic Shaving?
