Need some help with CA and epoxy finish on wedges

Hi all,

I hope this question doesn't seem too naive. I would like to ask ya'll how do you finish wedges, specifically wooden wedges. If I apply CA or epoxy to my scales and then assemble them with the wedge, how can I get the wedge to look the same as the scales? The scales are now thicker due to the depth of the finish. Do you apply more CA or epoxy to the wedge to bring the finish up to the scales? I don't see how with epoxy. I've made 3 sets of wooden scales and wedges and applied CA to them assembled. I like the way they came out, but I'd like to know how to finish them seperately. Thanks for any tips and or advice. Don.

Simple, you dont. You have to trace out the shape on your wood, cut it, sand it, trial fit, sand more, trial fit, sand more, put them together. The wedge has to made after you finish the scales. I give them a couple coats of polyurethane to seal/gloss finish them. Getting the wedge properly fitted takes a lot of time. You cannot pin it together then sand it flush, you have to do it in separate operations.

Thanks cannonfodder. I guess the solution I used above is the best way to get the look I was after. Of course, repinning the wedge end is out of the question with method. BTW that is a beautiful example you've given there. Thanks again, Don.

Cannon, I'm assuming that is a CA finish on your example, but just wanted confirmation. Awesome looking razor!

Nope, epoxy resin. Cant stand CA. Only use it for adhesive.
