Re-using old scales

Hi All,

My latest project came about for two reasons.

1. To use some old cracked ivory scales.

2. To make some slim scales after being challenged by Bill (Urleebird). ;)

So the upshot is that I found an un-used but water damaged Bengall 5/8 roundpoint. Removed all of the crusty, scaley, pitted damage, sanded without eating into the etching and bought up to a 2000 grit finish. Watermarks still present but I didn't want to sand any deeper. This blade was NOS but rusted. Had been in a shop window and dampness, condensation etc did the rest.

Made some .015 brass liners, epoxied some ivory and walnut to them and used a thin red plastic strip separator between the two.
Cut, sanded and polished to shape, pinned, honed and shaved.

The shave had no prep, just splashed hot water on my face, lathered (no preshave cream) and shaved. Two passes, no tugging but could have felt a little smoother, great finish.

I might sell this little beauty yet ;)

The blemish in the ivory (little dot) is natural btw.
