Rust on etching.
Hi all. I just acquired a Henckels razor. It is a barber notched smiley with some bad rust.
I am almost positive that there will pitting underneath. Half of the etching is covered. How should I handle this? Just clean up that area and leave the pitting? This will be my first restore. I have studied and feel well armed for the challenge.
Thanks in advance.

At least its not over glittery goldwash.
I've had good results w/ rust by using a well worn (not too abrasive) 3M scotchbrite pad, sprayed w/ Honda spray cleaner/polish. It seems to loosen rust well, and the cleaner/polish is gentle enough that with just a regular cloth or q-tip, its even safe for goldwash.
The pitting is what will may you decide about how to proceed. Etching or no pits. 'Can't make that call for you.

It'll depend on how deep the rust goes, but no way to know till you start taking it off. I'd scrape it off with a single edge scraper, and then use some 000 steel wool with MAAS or your metal polish of choice to see what you're dealing with.
