I was doing some pricing for buffers and found a nice one. Only thing that bothers me is that it is 3k+ rpm.
Can this buffer be used to repair and polish blades? What precautions should i take with that high of a speed?
I have hand sanded my first blade. I would like to learn both methods. Manual and power assisted.

Use smaller buffing wheels. A 4 inch works ok with 3500 rpm. The other solution is a variable speed - 1730 to 3500. Delta makes one that sells at home centers for around $80. Use a 6 inch wheel. You can figure feet per second by pi x D x RPM divide by 60 divide by 12. 4 inch wheel, 3500 rpm = 61 FPS. 6inch wheel at 1750 = 45.8 FPS. An 8 inch wheel with 3500 RPM is 122 FPS. Too high an FPS will cause a blade to heat up very fast. I have even used a 4inch at 1750. You can do the math. If my formula is wrong, let me know.

I would not use these "buffers" as they sound a bit like bench grinders to me... not good. Too fast, and the arbors are too short to be safe.
Check out mile-x.com as they usually have the best deal on real buffers I've seen...
