Restoration piece
Hello,
I got this today
Joseph Elliot
I am wondering how to remove the green tinge on the scales (hope they are tortoise?). Also, I am not sure if what I usually use to remove rust and pitting (NEVR DULL, wool impregnated with some kind of benzene, I think) can damage the tortoise, as well as if it is the best choice to remove heavy patina (on this and another piece I received today)
Thanks
Ivo

Sandpaper for the green stuff... and I think you have cow horn scales made to look like tortoise. That was done a lot back then.

Thanks, Bill!
I don't mind cow horn, as long as it's not some celluloid or plastic. I assume I need fairly high grit (800+)
The blade has some roughness, which I'll fix w/ sandpaper too, then the Norton. It is an almost true wedge, which I love but would take me a while to sharpen...
Cheers
Ivo
