What's best for polishing a blade?

I'm restoring a blade, and I've got a good shine on it, but there are still very light scuff marks. They're not from a lower grit.
I've tried CrOx and Turtle Wax Polishing Compound. The CrOx (Formax brand) puts a great shine on the blade but won't take it to the final polish, it leaves some very light scuffing behind. The Turtle Wax polish doesn't seem to do much at all. I'm thinking it only works on car clear coats.

What should I use as the final polishing agent to take the shine to the final step?

Flitz metal polish, Mothers ... You can get them fra a auto parts store. But, it sounds more like you didn't finish with sand paper well enough.

Exactly. Just for kicks, go back to the second from last grit sand paper and sand the whole blade again, in one direction, tang to tip/lengthwise. Then, sand from edge to spine/widthwise with the next and final grit until every single scratch from the previous grit has been removed. Then go to Mother's. I like it. Cheap and effective. Oh, and if you aren't wet sanding, wet sand, preferably with wd-40 or windex rather than water. If you do use water, put a little bit of dish soap in the water to help.

I use the Turtle Wax Polishing compound with #0000 steel wool to start out with and then move to just the polishing compound on a rag.

I've heard that metal polish on 12k micromesh works well too

I am a huge fan of Happich Simichrome. I have started ordering it by the case.
I use it for a ton of other stuff around the house, not just polishing razors.

Would any of the above described methods necessarily remove the etching from a blade?

etches come off very quickly with CrOx :( Some things we learn the hard way.
