    Default polishing the edge

    hi all
    can i use jewlers polishing compounds to polish my razors after honing to finish and polish the edge b4 stroping ? if so whitch one are best....

    They may in fact polish the edge but will very likely dull it as well. I'd go straight from stone to leather with no intermediate step.

    What ace said. If you really want to polish the edge before stropping, you can try a CrOx pasted piece of balsa, or put a tiny drop of CrOx on a fine hone with water. I generally use a little CrOx on my PHIG (C12k) before stropping and it works amazingly. Either that, or invest in a finishing stone like a Jnat, Escher, etc.

    Just out of curiosity, what hones do you have?

    While a buffer may get a razor "knife sharp", there is no way to get a razor "razor sharp" on a buffer, period. Stones are the only way to get a razor sharp enough to provide a comfortable shaving edge.

    do you mean jeweler's rogue or compound, I think there is big difference.
    Cerium Oxide is jewelers polishing compound that can be used for stropping, it is finer than CrO, and does not dull the edge.
