I picked up two identical Wostenholm pipe razors in need of restoration and new scales. I have some zebrawood (enough for ten sets of scales) and also some walnut. Which does the group think makes more sense, matching scales on each razor, or differing woods to distinguish the two?
six of one, half a dozen of the other....I think.
If you like the zebrawood, do two sets. If you want variety, do one of each.

IMHO unless your planning on making a matching seven day set by acquiring 5 more I would do them both different in 2 different styles. But that's me. I am sort of OCD so if I am making matching razors they have to be identical and I mean identical! Lol that's why even though I'm building a WB seven day set I am trying to keep each one different right down to blade style. Looking for a frame back 7/8 now. Lol but like a previous poster mentioned its really up to your preferences.
Thanks for the feedback. The thought of a seven day set did cross my mind. I think I will match them up. I also have a Boker that I can try the walnut on. I guess I can swap later if I change my mind. The blades are are realtively close in size.
If you're going to use them in your rotation I'd go for two different woods. If only for show then both the same.
Seeing two nearly identical razors, 1st thing in the morning would just confuse me. But then I do confuse easily.(:-)
I once had a request to use different wood on each side. You could do that if it doesn't mess with your head.
