Do it in front of the TV, try to relax.
It can actually be quite theraputic if your not trying to rush it.
But I do know where your coming from :D

Yeah I agree with Baldy!
I would never free hand though. Always have a sanding block or curve in there though :)
I just finished hand-sanding a Boker. I watched a couple of movies this way. I would suggest not trying to finish in one sitting. Hand-sanding allows for more control. I did a decent job of keeping the lines from softening too much. This way the razor looks less like a restoration.
I think any restorer worth their salt can keep a blade from looking "like a restoration," but I know what you mean. There are a lot of s**t razor "professionals" out there (seems like half the internet decided razors, restoration, and honing are a great way to get rich quick) who really put a beating on a razor. Whether you use your hands or a buffer, the key is knowing what you are doing, paying attention, and going slow and steady...
And yes, hand sanding sucks. Did it twice, bought a Baldor and haven't regretted a penny of it!
Definately going to invest in a banch polisher at some point cos this razor bug has got a hold on me, hand sanding or not!!
For razor with extra attention to detail, I also use audiobooks-- usually something light, like David Sedaris or a genre fiction mystery. Keeps me entertained and lets me pay attention to a delicate blade. Big ol' chopper? Fire up the tube and it's time for a LOTR marathon!
