Poor man's washers.

This is something I came up with because I couldn't find any washers that were small enough in the hardware store and I didn't want to order them from the internet, I decided to improvice and it worked out great(I think)
All you nead is a power drill, an adjustable vice and some suitable nails.
Set the drill to the lowest speed, drill in short intervals and don't push to hard, it's alot easier to get the holes centered that way and your drill won't break(i broke two drill heads before i figured out the technique)

With brass or copper nails - or stainless - this is a cool idea. We could easily do file work around the circumference before drilling the hole. Typical Swedish ingenuity! Tak!

I tried making my own washers by drilling holes in thin brass sheet, then using a hole-punch (meant for paper) to cut out the washers. That involved looking up through the punch, centering the drilled hole, and squeezing. Centering was a bit hit-and-miss, so in the end I bought some M1.6 washers from the internet.

The box said Clout nails, I have a fealing copper might be a bad idea because of the whole turning green thing.

Probably said clous wich means nails in french. It is a good idea and guys around here have made washers but the hole has to be perfectly centered to give a good look to the whole pin, what size are these washers?

(In metrics) As a whole the diameter is 5mm and the hole has a diameter of 2mm.

2mm is quite large for the normal pin size used in securing straight razors in scales.

Considering that it cost a couple dollars for a 100 washer unless you make something special i just dont see it. But anyway if you cant get them, make em , would like to see them on a razor!

When I make stuff I feel like I can take more pride in my work if even the small details are hand made by me, that and the fact that I would probably have to import them(waiting for delivery) were my main reasons for taking this route(I also had fun making them).
I've also just finished my first set of scales that I made from one of the boards from the wood blinds in my bedroom, I cut them into shape and handsanded them yesterday, I used a toothpick and som extra strong water resistant wood glue to pin the wedge then I treated them with one layer of brown wood stain and three layers of polyurethane varnish(the last layer is drying as I write)
