My modified grinder.

After countless hours of obsessing over grinders I finally came up with a solution to my grinder interfering with the wheel on my old setup.
This 8x2 iron caster has bearings (not sure how long they will last) and turns true.
I'm now working on a tool rest, and have ordered an entire set of 2x48 belts.
all thats left to get is the matching 6" and 4" caster and have a small drive pulley turned for slow speed finish grinding.
All in all it tracks perfectly straight and I cant wait to give it a go!

Have you got something on the wheel to soften it, rubber or tape or something?
You might find that the caster on its own will be too hard. JMHO

Im going to crown it with electrical tape, I like your idea about old tire rubber but im not sure I trust contact cement, lol

I'm pretty sure you can get the 4" and 6" wheels with precision bearings. Probably 6203 bearings which are cheap to replace. Look at McMaster-Carr, they should have what you need.

Thats it, mind the mess in the garage ... Were in the middle of underpinning our foundation and everything from the basement is loaded in there.
Good news is after the basement is finished im getting a new workshop! :)
Anyways I found the 4 and 6" wheels today, and made a little more progress on the tool rest.

well this is the result of about an hour of cutting/ grinding. Certainly not going to be a show piece but I could use the practice with the tool rest.
Thats 50 grit, I still havent got a tracking # from the belt set I ordered on ebay so I cut up a 6x48 and it works well!

Looking good. Well done with getting your grinder to a point where you can make that.
