Cedar is pretty soft, just about any wood can be used if it is Stabilized, but honestly Cedar and Pine would be two of my last choices..
Ok thanks. I will have to use something else then. I kinda thought that but figured someone with some experience would chime in. Thank you sir.
Maybe I will make a razor/brush stand with some of it. I got plenty thats for sure. Its about a 10 or 15 lb slab.
cedar tends to be very "wet" and has a tendency to check or split as it dries. Is your piece kiln-dried or fresh from the tree? It is generally accepted that lumber air dries to a usable moisture content at a rate of about one year per inch of thickness. If it is fresh cut, slice it into slabs, sticker it in your garage (stack it with 1/2" wood spacers between each piece) and be patient. This of course is advice given for lumber used in furiture making, and may be overkill for a small project, but it would be disappointing to make a nice brush stand only to have it split in 6 months.
I know its been stored in a garage since at least December and I would say its been in that type of enviroment for much longer. I dont think it was kiln dried. It already has some cracking in it. Mayby I will cut small pieces of the ends and turn pens. Thanks for the advise.
