Hi Gents, I have a brand new Thiers Issard (5/8 carbon steel) that I want the etching on the blade removed. Can I do this myself? Is it easy or should I send it to a
honemeister? any advice is appreciated.. Thanks in advance

I just finished taking the gold etch off a new Dovo an hour ago and had to drop to 320 grit greaseless on the buffers, to remove it all, then go back up to re-polish the steel..
The Gold comes off pretty easy but the Gray and the actual etch under there is a bit harder... Can you do it with sandpaper,???? Yes but you are in for some work by hand
Pardon my ignorance, but is the more than one type of etch on TIs? Can we see a pic (or a link to a stock photo) of yours?
The razor was purchased from The Art Of Shaving... I would rather the blade be plain... Attachment 94632
Brand new... hmmm....
Anything that will make it gone will also
make the razor dull. Do little or nothing until it needs
honing.
I might recommend
Pick up a tube of MAAS or Simichrome Polish
a drop on both sides and rub with a pinch of bathroom tissue
and see what happens. If the etch is shallow this
will calm it down. If it is not shallow hand sand with
3M wet dry perhaps 1K or 2K but his will almost always
dull the edge.
Wondering if it is truley etched, can you feel it with your fingernail? since it is an advertizing logo it my just be silkscreened.
Carefully try any metal polish,it may come right off.
Etching is done with acid, removes metal,I would bet it will come off easily with Maas, or Flitz as it may not be a true etch.
I have honestly never stripped one of the AOS razors  I was thinking the Gold Etching.. sorry (good catch Dylan)
Start lightly like the guys said with Flitz or Simichrome, and get rougher if it doesn't work.. be careful of the edge if it doesn't need honing now though
