Hello guys here is my new red imp 133 and I got a question about the scales. Is this normal to see Attachment 95674
It would be wierd to see not that way.
Why is that, and also what steel is the red imp made out of
Mine came in worse condition. Not a new razor, but very lightly used. The scales are a rather fragile and soft plastic, there are ways to straighten the scales, though it requires unpinning. What is the maker of your imp?
Made in USA by case
Mine is a Ludo made in solingen, look on the wiki about restoring warped scales
i only recall seeing a few sets of case red imps that were not warped.... is the toe touching the wedge ?
No sir the toe does not touch the wedge it's a great fit I just want to straighten them out and clean up the scales along with the blade. Do u know what steel the red imps are made of
Shrunken scales are not unusual with Red Imps. I was told by an old Italian barber that they removed certain pigments and plastics to make te scales really red and the result was scales that shrunk over time. Chefbaze who has a bunch of them told me the same thing. The Case ones are excellent razors, very easy to hone.
Yes good hard steel ... but i think the Morris version is a better red imp. the 3 pin scales, limit warping and the steel just feels better on the stones. the 3 morris' i have used also sing better while shaving. mind you the case is not bad but the morris is just a little bit batter. i have no experience with the Ludo.
the wiki has some info on straightening the scales but if you are planning on using heat to straighten the Case scales ... be extra cautious they discolor quite easily and by the time you sand that out you are losing some of the logo.

I read somewhere that someone put popsicle sticks in the scales and heated them up with a hair dryer. Then once the scales got easier to manipulate they would close the razor with the popsicle sticks in the scales and the blade in between the popsicle sticks to help center the blade and straighten everything when they cooled. Haven't tried it yet though, but going to since I got a set like that.
