    Default New Project: W&B Bow

Came across this little beauty at a local flea market. The horn scales were destroyed by worms and were broken but the blade looks to be in pretty good condition despite quite a bit of surface rust. Here are a few before pics:

Vitals are: 11/16, 1/4 to 1/2 hollow with the triangular toe end. All etching and stamps are still very legible and it should clean up nicely. All thoughts/comments welcome.

I picked up a W&B yesterday as well and it has a very similar honing issue at the heal where it's uneven and honed down further than the toe. I wonder if this indicates a problem with the stabilizer as I've read a few threads about stabilizer issues with these.

Now that you mention it, this is not the only W&B I've seen with this issue. Two of the other three W&B's I have are also slightly wider at the toe than the heel. I wonder if this was a design feature or, as you have stated, a problem with the stabilizers.

I laid mine on a piece of marble and it seemed fine as far as I could see. It didn't look or feel as if the stabilizer was touching at all but I've yet to hone anything so my knowledge is zero.

After some work with the 500grit wet/dry:

Now for the hard decision.......leave the patina and the character or go all out with a full blown progression........

Hard choice, the patina on it does have a nice quality.
