Next Restoration Project - Ashton Jackson & Co.

Picked up this guy (13/16 wedge) in Perry, Oklahoma for $15.

Funny enough, I haven't come across too many Ashton Jackson's but I acquired his little brother (a 5/8 square point hollow ground) in a lot of blades and it's currently getting a new set of clothes from Glen. Looks like I will have a little Ashton Jackson collection if I keep going like this. I like the shape of the tang on this guy...and incase the tang stamp isn't legible, it says "Ashton Jackson & Co Unique and Imitable American Razor"...even though it was a Sheffield made razor for the American market (from what I've read). Scales are terrible at best, so he'll also get some new clothes once i'm done as well.

Time to get out the sandpaper...

Not sure if the steel is a million times harder than my last hand sanding job, but this one is sloooow sanding. Maybe when I get to Chicago we can get a group of SRPers to make a co-op workshop so I can have access to some wheels :/

I felt the same way when I hand sanded an old Geo Wostenholm... Don't give in to temptation (like I did) and get really low in grit because it will take a long time to remove the deep scratches you produce.

i'm already at 180...certainly won't go any lower, but that's already pretty low.

I often start with 120 and haven't had any problems getting the scratches out - just takes time is all

Love that diamond tang. Should turn out beautifully when you finish.
