Bakelite dust/epoxy for dark horn repair

I thought I would share this. I attempted a dust/epoxy repair on my dark horn test scale using dust from an equally dark donor . The dust was too light as I suppose the dye had not penetrated the horn. The result is in the first pic. As I knew the horn would darken after applying neetsfoot oil after repairs, I figured I needed something even darker for a good end result.
I mixed up some bakelite dust. Nice and dark brown! The third pic shows where I fixed 3 good bug bites on my test scale. Seems a perfect match after oiling the scale! The bakelite also seemed to mix better without clumping and went on more even. I sanded when dry and used a wire brush to simulate the grain of the horn.

I need to do this for my Marsh scales.

Wow she blended nicely well done. The color match is spot on too.
The thought of bug bites are making me itch now.
