Hand sanding a blade? Make a jig to hold it or else!

After hand sanding my second razor I started to have some pain in my thumb and index finger. I do have a bad habit of gripping things rather hard like pens and steering wheels ect. As well I played guitar in hard rock bands for over 2o years so my thumb already had some issues. About a week later my thumb started getting stuck in the bent position in the mornings. I was a little concerned but as it would loosen up after a while I didn't make too much of it. Well of course it got worse and it turns out I have trigger finger or rather trigger thumb in this case and get to make a visit to an orthopedist. Make a jig to hold your razors so you can do this --->:tu

This also means I can't shave with my new restored razors until it heals say 6 weeks +/-.:td

I had surgery about two months ago to release trigger fingers on two fingers of my right hand - and another one done three or so years ago. Kind of a pain for a couple of weeks - think using toilet paper with your non-dominent hand - but now all is well. Good luck!

I feel more sorry for your six week shaving hiatus then I do the trigger thumb problem you have :(

I don't think they well do surgery as it will release with a little help. I'm thinking cortisone shots massage and a splint for several weeks. But we'll see what the Orthopedist has to say.

I was really expecting to see some to-the-bone cuts in this post! Good thing I was wrong! I've been out of the workshop for 2 weeks waiting for stitches to heal up on my pinky finger (not even razor related, just a stupid, very sharp, metal lightswitch plate in the basement). I suppose I have a little bit of finger lockup though since even though it's relatively healed now I still look I'm drinking tea in a very fancy manner all the time...
