Does this look cracked to you?

Unfortunately I don't have a microscope or even macro lens for my camera, so these are the best I could do with the 18-55 kit lens and a tripod.

This blade is extra hollow, so I didn't want to remove more pitting than I had to. After getting the rust off with 400 grit paper I went to the 1k Norton. Photographed is the heel with a very small chip. I cannot tell with my naked eye whether the chip is at the end of a very small crack that is less than a mm long or maybe just some pitting on the side of the bevel that will hone out with just a little more work.

I'm not a pro, but it just looks to be a large chip to me. Hopefully that's all.

Hint:

Place the bevel of the razor on the top of your thumbnail, not like a TNT, on the side so the flat of the bevel is riding on the top of your thumbnail.. Apply very little pressure an you will see a slight bulge appear... Lightly move the razor over the thumbnail watching that bulge as it rides along, when it hits the spot in question you will know instantly if there is a crack :(

One of the vids either TI or Dovo shows this technique, used to show off how fine the grind is along a lead ring...

LIGHTLY, and practice where you know the edge is good first so you know what to look for

2x the thumb nail idea. That should tell you if it's a small chip or just rust. Right now I say rust. Let us know.

Pass the dip 'cause it's just a chip.

Sometimes heavily pitted blades will reveal pits in the edge as they are honed. That's what it look like to me.

I did try something like that before posting (but I didn't move the edge along my nail to see if it caught). I was just torquing the spot onto my thumbnail to see if the crack separated when the blade warped slightly. I didn't see any difference, so I shall continue to clean this baby up and make some scales for it.

Did you set a quick bevel to see that the edge is solid ???

If in doubt always grind a fast bevel with a layer or two of tape on a low grit stone to test the steel, no sense in working the razor if the steel is Swiss Cheese :)

yeah those four pictures are post 1k bevel with 1 layer of tape. I just kept going and that chip was the last little bit that wasn't straightening out.
