I need help finding wedge materal, any help would be of great help...

I am hoping that someone out here will be able to help me out. I am restoring an 8/8 Wade Butcher that I have had Max regrind for me. I am having Ryan (bestsilversteel) make the scales out of black and gold burl M3.

Now here comes the needing help part. I am looking for some sort of exotic wedge material ie mammoth ivory, mammoth tooth, elephant ivory also open to ideas. I am willing to buy these items. I know there are countless websites selling ivory, just not in the quantity I’m looking for. Thank you for your help.

What sort of quantity do you need to make a wedge?

Sorry, I should have clarified. My post makes it sound like I need way more than I do. I am thinking somewhere around 1x1x 1/8 would be plenty. Seems all I can find is matched scale sets.

Well if I decide to go with elephant ivory I know where I am going to go, however still looking for a small piece of mammoth ivory.

A lead wedge would be ideal for your 8/8 razor. Many of the older big blades were made with lead wedges. Lead wheel weights or antique fishing sinkers might work. Modern sinkers are made of an alloy that is a bit harder than the real old ones.

Shape the lead with a hammer and cut it to size with a scissor or tin snips.

Thanks for the advice. I had thought about keeping the razor close to org. using it's org. wedge. But Max did such an amazing job on the regrind I decided to bling it up a little.

:) got what I was looking for should be here by the end of the week. Thanks Miles and thanks to everyone who responded to my post.

If ur going for the bling factor, how's about a nice ruby or sapphire wedge :) price might be a little prohibitive mind but it's def got the wow factor.
