Just purchased this OST "Uncle Sam" today. What do you all suggest to polish this up and still preserve the etching? Also, how would you all tackle the pivot on the non-etched side? I know that I need to be careful since it's got the gold etching. That's why I'd rather ask now instead of ruin it later :)

If it were mine, I wouldn't do a thing with it other than hone and shave with it. If you must clean it, I would carefully polish it with metal polish on a q-tip, making sure to avoid all of the gold wash.
Thanks for the input. I guess I'll just polish up the other side and get it honed.

Thanks. Ill give that a try. Some of it is pitting, especially around the pivot as well as the tang. Ill deal with it I guess :)
