Give it a go, Nifty! I betcha it will work ! (Surely cannot hurt! ;) ) I am a bit frustrated with the one I have now, but(admittedly) have not applied myself. The key to any worthwhile endeavour is work!

I always remove the guard when putting a blade to stone. But I always put it back on when I am done. it can save you a lot of band-aids when you put your hand down on one that happens to be standing on its spine!
Necro post... But wondering if Nifty ever had any success with the lapping film in a cover?
Nifty? you still out there?
Just picked up a real nice Rolls at a Flea Market for $10.00 This one is in great shape with a good box. The hone & strop are also in great shape & the blade is almost like new. Can't wait to shave with it but it is behind the Cranford Razor Works 5/8" & the 7/8" Fredrick's near wedge "The Keen Edge Razor".RAD has struck again!!
The Guy who sold me the Rolls was a Vet. that was having a hard time getting along & we talked for about 15 minutes about our time in the service. Vietnam plays over & over in these guy's head every day. I was lucky to go in just after the war was over in 75 but this guy had PTSD bad. Please "Thank A Vet" this holiday weekend but I do it every day. It helps & you can learn a lot from them. Sorry for getting off topic but this is close to my heart.

I have no instructions with my Rolls. Should I put water on the hone when I use it? The strop was pretty dry & last night I put some Fromm strop dressing on it & it feels a little better this morning Anyone have a copy of the instruction manual they can put on here?

Hi Slawman
I have the original instruction sheet that came with my Rolls. I'll dig it out and scan it, if you want a copy, Pm me with your email address and I'll forward it.
hones are used dry. No water, no oil. Although I would be curious if anybody has ever used the hones wet? Let me know if Osdset cant find his instructions, I probably have them in a file somewhere too.
