scale pins----new guy with Q regarding torx

I'm new to str8 and have been carefully working through all the essentials. I hav now honed4 blades to pleasant shaving sharpness... one is probably close to HHT but my hair is too thin.

Now I want to dress up the scales. I'm fairly good at woodworking. My concern is the little pins.

I looked at a knife site that sold kits and parts for building knives. They use little torx screws that fit into barrels.

Any one here use that or tried it?

What generally are the sizes for the pins?

My suggestion is to read up on the restoration forum. It has TONS of info on pinning, lots of it coming from questions exposing my severe level of ignorance att.

:hmmm:I seem to remember someone asking if a particular razor pictured in a thread used them, but I don't think it was ever answered. The fact that they're not commonly used would imply to me, at least, that they aren't a good solution, but admittedly I have never tried them. I'd think they'd be hard to adjust and keep locked... remember a tap or two on a pin makes a big difference so the screw would have to have an extremely fine thread pitch to be manageable. I guess you could use Loctite but that introduces a whole other set of problems. :shrug:

1/16" brass rod stock with #0 washers is the easiest and most common solution. Really look into the older threads, they're full of useful info on this.
