You, a razor, and others don't mix!

Okay, so stupid thing happened yesterday, and I thought it warranted to let others know; working or inspecting a blade with other people around = bad things happening. It's too easy to get focused on what you're doing and tune out the world around you.
Back story:
A buddy at work has gotten into straights, and got a little careless after shaving a few days ago; instead of wiping the blade then letting it dry he slung the water off and *dink* smacked the sink with the tip of his round point dovo 6/8. Well he brings the razor in to let me look at it to see what we could do about it. It's crazy...he didn't even knick the blade, the very tip just barely bent. When I say barely I mean I had to hold the razor with the tip pointed down at the ground (the tang facing me) looking straight down the very sides just to see which way it was bent (lucky guy I say :rolleyes:)
Well the carpet in our office area is this weird brownish, black, and off blue color which was making it hard to see the blade right; soooooo... I put my hand under the blade to use my skin as contrast. As I was doing this one of the girls who is a good friend and joke with all the time walked by; she couldn't see the blade b/c my back was turned to her. I was moving my hand up to close the blade, and she jokingly does the move it shoulder bump...needless to say the blade pretty much immediately sunk into the side of my hand :dropjaw::cry: So from here on out I think the next time I do this, it's gonna be done is a desolate isolated remote region of the world...sorry for the long post, but I thought it was a good cautionary tale to share, and a little humor to start the morning off. From what I was told by my friend, the look on my face was priceless; a mixture of: confusion, then realization, pain, and last but not least disbelief when I looked down. :gaah:

Ouch, sorry to hear that. I think that should qualify you for an entry with photo to the "Cut of the Day" thread.

Hey forgot about that thread...thanks for the idea, it really wasn't too bad; only about 3mm across and two layers of skin...bled like a stuck pig, but looked worse than it was. I do wish I could have seen my face though, but I think it would have gone in this sequence:

I'd like to see the look on the girls face when she realised what had happened and that she had caused it

Total disbelief, mixed with a "what the hell just happened" confused look is the best way I could describe it. She had never seen a straight razor before, so I think it took her a minute to piece together what it actually was she had gotten stuck into my hand :rofl2:

I'm at work, so i am going to try and upload one from my phone, I am going to post one on cut of the day (thanks reardensteel) as well hopefully. having to email the pic to myself then load from there so it may take a minute.

Less than 10 stitches doesn't count.

No stitches luckily, it didn't really slice, just kind of hit, and sunk in about 1/4mm. I measured it at exactly 5mm across. The lighting officially sucks in my office area, and the phone isn't getting anything descent, just blurs. I will most certainly post the pics tonight when I can get the digital camera to it.

Here it is, like I said it wasn't a long slice, but a deeper "chop" into my hand, it's healing really quickly (another good thing about being cut by a straight razor)...sorry my hands are pretty beat up and aint' too purdy to look at! :p

I've cut myself worse lacing up the blades.
Still, Tiddle has shown grace and sportsmanship and should be applauded for that.

I agree again. I've seen skates do some nasty damage (to my own calf and to a teammate's finger in the locker room.

But good for tiddle to share his story and remind us that our "toys" have to always be respected.
