LOL Neil, there IS some dirt on it and don't want it to affect the edge at all. Call me paranoid maybe. I don't have much experience (only been doing this for a few months) so i'm not sure what I should watch out for when it comes to this stuff!
I'll be back in Toronto at Christmas. Already have plans to meet Maxi and get some scales made up. I only get there once or twice a year now that I moved here (Nova Scotia).
This thread is particularly interesting to me as I just also got a Medal Of Award 814 last Saturday. As you can see mine is much more dirtier on the linen side than yours. Another difference is in the mounting hardware. Does anyone know the history of these to know the difference in age by that? I would think that cleaning would be much harder with the sewn together one.

Nice score, I have that same strop. Mine came waxed but cleaned up pretty well.
That linen is real nice to strip on!
Eric
I've actually decided not to wash the linen on mine. I tested a few junkers on it and it had no ill effect, only improvements throughout the length of the edge, it might not look new but it performs that way!
