? on re-pinning of scales ..

ok so ive been reading a few post on this but i want to double check and make sure i understand this right before i attempt this ...
do i need to have a washer on both sided of the blade on the inside of the scales ?? after removing the old scales i noticed there was only a mark (or stain) on one of the scales that looks like it had a washer there before , and after removing pin there was no washer on the other side .. this is all in reference to the pivot pin as this pin was broke off where it was peened and has to be replaced .. thanks as i know im probnot to clear in my descriptions ..lol

My first couple of restores had no washers next to the blade so when I reassembled no washers were used. Then I got a razor that had washers, I've been using washers, both sides of blade, ever since.

Some scales have raised a Dias that acts as a washer, some don't have anything, and most have Inner Bearing Washers


Here are some things I can tell you after tearing apart just a few razors over the years...

Razors with nothing have a much higher incidents of Rusted Tangs, Warped scales, Broken pivots, and if the razor isn't opening smooth I usually guess correctly that there are no Bearing washers before I pop the pins..

As always the choice is yours, I can just tell you what I have found

thanks , i think i will put them on both sides and see what happens on this first attempt ... right now i cant find the rod or the washers at 2 of 3 craft/hobby stores ive been to , 3rd one i havent got there yet .. thanks again for the responses !!!

Often, we flatten the bearing washers to reduce the thickness. Some full service hardware stores may have O-80 brass washers. Good luck with your restoration.

ill make another valiant search again 2morrow and see what i come up with ive got the blade already to go between some scales , just not sure if i wanna put the cash-ola into new ones or keep the old ones and just get it honned .. thanks again for the responses !!!!!!

I just ordered a bunch of #0 washers from jewelrysupply.com 59 cents for a pack of 10 (on sale) The rod i got from IIRC texasknifesupply, shipping was as much as 2 rods though.

i ended up getting it all off ebay for 12$ if i remember right , 18' of rod and 40 washers .. i got impatient and figured the gas i used drivin around id just order the pack .. now that i have some to start with i figure i can shop around ... thanks for the info everyone !!!

The best value that I've seen so far is microfasteners.
