Hi Guys, I was looking in masters hardware store yesterday,
looking for something to polish my soon to arrive razor acquisitions.
I can't find MAAS or Blue Magic... So I bought a tub of turtle wax rubbing compound ( I hope its the one I saw mentioned in other posts)
But I was wondering if Silvo will work?
if anyone knows please tell me =]

Grab some Autosol from an automotive store like Repco or Supercheap - all I've ever used, works great.
I use Mothers Chrome Polish or Simichrome Polish
Renaissance Wax. Enough said.
Not an abrasive polish. Ren wax won't do much for tarnish or dull steel.Quote:

Have to agree with EisenFaust on the Autosol. Grab a tube from Supacheap for around 10 bucks. It lasts a long time and works well.
I have heard (but cant say for sure) that Silvo/Brasso are not good for carbon steel razors.

Thanks for the tips guys, I will def grab some autosol soon. Also does honing help to clean the blade up a bit? or should the cleaning/polishing/sanding be done prior?
Do all the sanding/polishing before you take it to the hones.
+1 on Autosol! Works nicely.
Silvo did nothing for me.
Just have to take care not to cut yourself when you're polishing the blade...
Silvo is a silver polish. Silver jewellery is far softer than the steel in a razor blade. So silvo will be way too gentle to get anything done. The Autosol works great.
I've tried Silvo with little, if any, result.
Autosol is the way to go with 0000 steel wool and Brasso is good for the pins and scales.
Watch out with celluloid. Almost any solvent can start it degrading. Plastics polishes that are celluloid safe are a better approach. The Novus 1,2,3 system comes to mind but there will be others. Also Autosol makes a plastics polish but can't vouch for it yet.Quote:
