Thiers Issard Dandy Lux with bent scales.

I just scored a TI dandy Lux. The blade is in excellent condition. I light buffing on a wheel will have it back to its former glory. I am fairly certain that the blade is straight. I know the scales are bend and my eyes keep playing tricks on me. I am assuming I have to remove them to know for certain if the blade is straight. I will add some pics of the scales.
Are the scales celluloid or plastic? I have searched a few threads that said celluloid can be straightened and that they do not like heat.

I guess I have three questions.

1. Do I need to take the scales off the razor"

2. Are they celluloid or plastic, and

3. Can they be re-straightened?

They are in other wise excellent shape.

Not sure what they are made from, but there is some info in http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...wers-here.html that will show how to straighten warped scales. You could also search "fixing warped scales" and that will show some ideas. One way that doesn't involve removing the scales that I have done is using a hair dryer and heating them up for a couple minutes and then bending and holding them in place with my hands till they cooled. The scales should be pretty pliable once heated. That is a quick and easy fix so the razor won't hit the scales, but not the best. Celluloid can combust from heat from what I have read, but not sure if a hair dryer could cause it. Not sure if a hair dryer can heat a razor to get hot enough to ruin the temper probably not, but I know it can get hot to the touch from one so I will hold the blade in my hand so my hand absorbs the heat and not the blade. Be really careful to not cut yourself. Even if a razor isn't shave ready doesn't mean it won't cut skin.
