Being still a noob to all this stuff. I restored a Boker and put olive wood scales on this bad bay. Here is my problem the wood has nothing on it to protect it. What's the easiest finish that I can put on this razor that will protect it. I saw the ca finishes look quite simply but I just got done pinning this razor when it hit me. Is there anything I can rub on just the outside of the scales to protect them that's easy ? Or do I really have to un pin and treat inside and out?
It's your razor...But I'd unpin it, and redo it.
There are guys who use linseed oil? or tung oil. I'm sure they'll be along to tell you the what, why, and how of it. I prefer a CA finish.
There's no surface finish which totally prevents water from entering the wood, so you shouldn't be relying on the finish for that, anyway. I'd oil it or something and not worry about it--you are going to be wiping the whole thing down after each and every use, right? I guess some guys are using pressure treated woods, which are a different matter, but it's too late for you to do that.
Oil finish? Whats an easy quick finish or i may just unpin and try a ca finish

Unless you plan on soaking your razor in water, dont worry about it. Water contact with the scales should be incidental at most. Olive is a very oily wood. It is somewhat water repellent in the raw. Since the wood is oily to begin with, and quite dense, it will not take an oil finish well. Urethanes can have issues curing again due to the oily nature of the wood. A chemically hardened finish is best like CA or Epoxy resin. You could also just give it a couple coats of renaissance wax and leave it pinned.
