Re-applying Escher label help.

Hopefully someone has experience with gluing escher labels back on.
My 1"x5" stone's label is perfectly intact and clear coated, but it got moist and slipped off the stone.
I have had it off for 6 months or so, but decided I want to re-apply it.
For preparation, I lapped the stone lightly with my dmt, and the backside of the label is still "paper like" (not saturated by the clear coat).
I have considered using 3m spray glue on the label, affixing it then weighing it down with some heavy books.
I had also considered painting epoxy on the back of the label only, but I dont want to risk it squeezing out the side (label is only 4")
Any help as to which type of glue has worked for you and your method would be greatly appreciated.

I have sucessfully re-applied the label, here's a quick step by step.

Required:
2- 4" clamps
Paper towel
Krylon spray adhesive
Clamp surface
Paint stick
Clean work clamp surface

Step by step:
Place 2 layers of paper towell on clamp surface
Mock up clamps with stone label down, stir stick on top (eliminate rushing with clamps)
Shake can as directed
Spray backside of label with 2 solid passes, wait 30 seconds
Apply/ center label
Place in jig and clamp lightly for 15 minutes
Remove to make sure label hasn't shifted
Re-clamp for 3 hrs

FWIW, I've used a Krylon product called "Preserve It !" for protecting labels on eschers. It is made for archival documents and supposedly won't yellow or harm the document in any way. It makes it water resistant if not water proof. I've used it on a few and so far so good.

The label had been coated with clear nail polish, but Im going to rough it up a little and use preserve as you suggested to try to get a smoother finish.

Would you spray preserve on this and would it fill the depressions? I kinda want to keep it original, but its pretty rough anyways...

Sure I would just spray it on there. It is , as you would expect, a transparent finish. I don't know about filling depressions. It will go into them but I don't think it will fill them in the way putty will fill a nail mark on drywall. It will help keep it as good as it is now.
