A 1920s Boker, needs a little non aggressive cleaning.

I have finally obtained my first Boker, ITs a 6/8 extra hollow spanish point. I LOVE IT, easy to use, nice results. I got it for the barter of two razors nearing the end of there lifes. The BOKER has some tarnish on it(i was aware of this during the transaction) and i would like to get rid of a little. However i do not want a full restoration, i don't want to deface the light texts. I also don't want a light restoration leaving visible pits. I want to be able to smooth down the devils spit and take off a patch of active rust. What would you recommend?

Restoration is pretty much always a balancing act between the damage that is there and the steel below..

The best bet is to start with the least intrusive system

A Q-tip dipped in MAAS (or any good polish) a a good starter system
Another system would be to try a FiberGlass Cleaning pen

After that starts heavy duty Restoration :)

Of course you always have to deal with "Glen's First Law of Restore" which states

"The depth of the pitting will inevitably be just deeper then the depth of the etch":gaah:

Thank you, i have talked to a buddy of mine and he has tried to convince me to use a type of steel wool? I am not sure about that. What do you think?

Never had good results with steel wool myself, but I have heard of people using it in combination with a Polish and they say it works :shrug:
Also Aluminum Foil, used much the same way, I have heard people say gives good results, again I haven't had much luck with it.

Theses are all ways to do light Restoration, I tried them out when I was first learning restore techniques..
