My system is ready for a test run. I'm going to take it up to our lake place for the long weekend and try it out there. I'll take pictures during the test, and post them Sunday or Monday, when I get back. I hope I'm not going to run into breakage issues - the glass on the 1 gallon Mason jar is about 1/4 in. thick. Plastic may be a better option - it probably has a bit of "give" built into it.
Pickle jar top re-sealed with a new silicone bead and I am back in action, just did a set of scales yesterday pulled the vacuum down to 27Hg and held it there until all the bubbles stopped, about 6 hours...
I just went back through my old posts and realized that this Pickle jar is 1 year old this month, so far I have only had to re-seal the jar lid..
I think glass is a better way,(just be carefull) the two plastic chambers I had worked great in testing with just water.
Pulled max vac for hrs with zero issues.
As soon as I used the resin both started to craze than crack so I am certain a reaction of sorts caused the failures.
My wife and I do alot of canning so I know canning jars are pretty tough, carry on.
I saw a really nice Chamber made from a Pyrex cake pan and a plexi top,,, now that system really interested me, you could use way less product to fill them, and you could have several set up with different finishes...
Anyone still dinking with this??
Have been doing all sorts of Diff woods with great results using Cactus juice. What amazes me is how the process brings out the grain and colors of the wood, also how it machines after stabilizing.
I’ve been keeping tabs on this thread and I have a humble question or so.
First Question:
Are you staining the wood BEFORE it goes into whatever concoction or is the stain part of the concoction?
Also, I believe it was Pixelfixed what said that he’d been ‘playing with the vacuum chamber with other materials besides wood.
Second Question:
Would this process ‘seal’ horn such as cattle or bison horn?
Just Wondering!
