Question Can I get some help.

I have 2 razors that need to be honed. My Boker Cutting king also somehow was chipped on the toe. Nobody will admit they either hit something or dropped it. Also have a Grim. It was a gift, but out of the box, it didn't have that effortless shave. I have heard certain people can do magic on the Grim Razors. Looking for someone in or around Chicago, but more someone reputable. Have extra razors so no worry about the time frame. I might have made the Grim worse by stropping at too high of an angle. Still learning. I want to keep on practicing honing on a cheap razor. I know people have many opinions on tones to use, but I've seen certain of those top honers who use Sharpton stones and really done use coticle stones constantly.

Thanks for any help. I don't want to send it to someone who uses a brick and sandpaper. Then I have seen others who don't accept certain brand razors tp hone.

    Hi and Welcome,

First check out the library https://shavelibrary.com/
Its a wealth of information that will set you on the right path, it will explain about maintenance of a razor as you definitely don't strop at an angle, your razor should lay flat to the strop.
Grim razors are, well, grim by all accounts so I'd just use it as a practice razor.
Im sure someone close in your area will sort your Boker out.

High angles and stropping definitely don’t go together. High angles and straight razors don’t really go together.

When you’re stropping keep the spine and edge on the strop. You don’t need anymore pressure than what allows you to stay in control of the razor. Keep the strop stretched enough to take the sag out of it and firmly enough for when your stropping it doesn’t excessively bow. Speed comes experience.

Pm gssixgun for honing, he’ll take care of you.
