intel qx3 micoscope
ok.......
so i bit the bullet and bought a qx3 microscope on ebay for 40 bucks. i received it yesterday and decided to give it a whirl. the pictures that i see it makes are quite grainy and the 200x....forget about it.
i wanted to see if anyone has any pics of their setups and how i can make sharper pictrues with it. i know the 200x isnt necessary but if i have it i might as well use it.
another question i have is....do you actually manually hold the razors on the mount when looking at it..or do you have any special rigs or methods.\
Thanks!!!

Thanked: 0I find that I can rest the blade on the platform and hold it steady enough. I find the focal point is very near the top of the range of the platform, so any holder you make would have to have the blade right on the top.
You do need enough light. This is a picture I took a while ago of my cheapie honing razor that I'm now restoring.
This is 200x
This is 60x

I use an Orion MicroXplore, which is the same as a low end Dino-Lite USB scope. Costs about $130. They make a great gooseneck stand/holder that is infinitely adjustable.
The software allows you to take photos as seen below. Both are 50X, but the scope will go to 200X
The first is a Dubl Duck honed by Josh Earl.
The second is a Dovo MOP honed by Randy Tuttle
